Five days ahead of their clash for the vacant WBA heavyweight title, Nikolai Valuev and John Ruiz today underwent a public training session in the heart of Berlin. “I want the title back,” the Russian Giant said after a light work-out in the Axel-Springer-Passage where he gave a taste of his improved mobility.
Prior to Valuev´s appearance, which attracted plenty of curious fans, Ruiz had displayed his good shape with shadow boxing and skipping exercises. “I am 36 years old,” he commented. “If I want to become world champion again, I have to defeat Valuev. But I am confident I will get this done. I will certainly make the most of this chance.”
August 24, 2008 - John Ruiz (43-7-1, 29 KOs), rated No. 2 by the WBA, arrived in Berlin, Germany on Saturday with his team. The former WBA heavyweight champion, who will fight in the German capital on August 30 that title again, looked very relaxed after his long journey from Las Vegas.
"I’m happy to be back,” he said. “In the last two fights in Germany I disagreed with the judges. But I hope it will be better this time. August 22, 2008 - Panama´s rising star Luis "El Nica" Concepcion (14-1 10 Kos.) capture the vacant WBA Fedelatin Flyweight championship with an impressive victory
against former world contender Juan "Panterita" Esquer (23-5-1 18 Kos.) from
Mexico, last Tuesday at Atlapa Convention Center in Panama City.
Concepcion went toe to toe with an opponent that double his experience, and
in a great performance the little warrior was stronger as the fight goes on.
In the third round the Panamanian rock Esquer with combinations to the head,
but the brave Mexican exchange punches, as the fifth round began Concepcion
came stronger making his opponent goes against the ropes, at the end of the
round the Mexican stayed on his tool and was unable to continue with the
fight.
Concepcion who won last year Panama´s TV reality show " El Primer Guerrero"
(The First Warrior) is considered by many as a future world champion.
August 16, 2008 - The World Boxing Association is pleased to inform to all its members and associates that the WBA Official Rating as of July 2008 has been published.
The Boxer of the month is Antonio Margarito from Mexico, WBA Super Welterweight Champion and Rafael Concepcion from Panama, WBA Super Flyweight Interim Champion got the Honorable Mention.
The WBA presents donation to the Venezuela Scouts Association
August 1, 288 - Following the KO Drugs Campaign guidelines, the World Boxing Association presented the Venezuela Scouts Association a donation as contribution for the development of the movement Scout in Venezuela. This donation corresponds to the money obtained in the last Latin-American Festival of Boxing celebrated on June 7 of the present year in the city of San Juan de los Morros.

AMB entrega donación a la Asociación de Scouts de Venezuela
Agosto 1, 2008 - Siguiendo los lineamientos de la Campaña KO a las Drogas, la Asociación Mundial de Boxeo otorgó a la Asociación de Scouts de Venezuela una donación como aporte para el desarrollo del movimiento Scout en Venezuela. Esta donación corresponde al dinero recabado en el último Festival Latinoamericano de Boxeo celebrado el día 7 de junio del presente año en la ciudad de San Juan de los Morros.

July 30, 2008 - WBA Flyweight champion Japan’s Takefumi Sakata retained his title for the fourth time on Wednesday at the Yoyogi First Gym in Tokyo, Japan as he pounded out a unimous decision over fellow countryman Hiroyuki Hisataka.
The judges’ scorecards marked 116-112, 117-111, and 118-111 for Sakata.
FEDELATIN congratulates Canchila as he becomes #42 WBA latin champ to win a World Title
FEDELATIN congratulates Colombian Cesar Canchila as he has become the #42 FEDELATIN champion in winning a world title as after his brilliant victory over previosuly unbeaten Giovani Segura from Mexico last Saturday in Las Vegas he won the WBA Light Flyweight title.
Therefore, Canchila becomes the second FEDELATIN champion from Colombia to win a world crown after Luis "Chicanero" Mendoza.
Canchila won the FEDELATIN Light Flyweight title back in March 2, 2007, after stopping Nicaraguan Miguel Tellez in Barranquilla, Colombia.

FEDELATIN felicita a César Canchila, que se convirtió en el 42do. Campeón FEDELATIN en obtener un título mundial, después que el sábado pasado en las Vegas venciera brillantemente al mexicano Giovani Segura, ganando así el título de los minimoscas de la AMB.
De esta forma, Canchila se convierte en el segundo campeón FEDELATIN nacido en Colombia en ganar una corona mundial, siguiendo los pasos de Luis “Chicanero” Mendoza.
Canchila obtuvo el título FEDELATIN de los minimoscas el 2 de marzo de 2007, tras noquear al nicaragüense Miguel Tellez en Barranquilla, Colombia.

July 27, 2008 - The World Boxing Association (WBA) wants to congratulate newly crowned WBA Welterweight champion Antonio Margarito from Mexico after his brilliant knockout victory over previously unbeaten Miguel Cotto from Puerto Rico on Saturday night in Las Vegas.
Margarito proved his reputation of being one if not the toughest welterweight out there with an overwhelming stoppage of such a great fighter like Cotto.
The WBA is proud to have Antonio among its champions now.
Also, the WBA congratulates Cotto as even in defeat he has proved to be one of the most exciting fighters in the sport. We wish him a well recovery and the best for his future.
