Caballero still WBA champ!
Pelenchin stops Parra in 12th round at
WBA KO to Drugs Festival in Venezuela.

June 8, 2008 - WBA super bantamweight champion Celestino "Pelenchin" Caballero (29-2-1, 19 KOs) retained his title with a twelfth round TKO over former WBA flyweight champon Lorenzo Parra (28-2, 18 KOs) on Saturday night at the Domo de Ciudad Olímpica in San Juan de los Morros, Venezuela headlining the 18th edition of the "WBA - KO to Drugs Festival."

Parra had some good moments early, but the nearly six-foot Caballero eventually wore down the smaller fighter and at the beginning of the twelfth round, referee Luis Pabon stopped the fight on the advice of the ring doctor due to a possible fractured jaw suffered by Parra. It was Caballero's fourth successful defense.
In other action, flyweight Juan Landaeta (25-6-1, 19 KOs) won the vacant WBA 112lb Fedelatin belt with an eleven round split decision over Ronald Barrera 23-5-1, 15 KOs. Scores were 107-104, 106.5-104 for Landaeta, 107.5-104 for Barrera.Welterweight Charlie Jose Navarro (17-2, 12 KOs) won the vacant WBA Fedelatin 147lb title with a unanimous eleven round decision over Jose Miguel Torres (20-3, 18 KOs) by scores of 107-102.5, 108-102 and 107-102.5. Torres was down in the fifth round.
Featherweight Rafael Hernandez (21-2, 18 KOs) outpointed Edison Garcia (13-7, 4 KOs) by scores of 99-91, 96-92, 99-91 in a ten round Fedelatin 126lb encounter.Unbeaten light flyweight Carlos Campos (12-0, 8 KOs) claimed the vacant Fedelatin 108lb belt with a unanimous nine round nod over Oscar Saturnino Lopez (11-6, 3 KOs). Scores were 87-84.5, 86-85, 87.5-86.5).
Unbeaten lightweight Jaidar Parra (16-0-1, 5 KOs), brother of Lorenzo Parra, claimed the Fedecaribe 135lb belt by majority decision over previously unbeaten Edgar Puerta (8-1-1, 3 KOs) in a nine-rounder by scores of 87-83.5, 87-85.5, 85-85.
In a charity exhibition match, WBA Executive VP Gilberto Jesus Mendoza sparred with heavyweight John Ruiz. $100 was donated for each punch Mendoza threw at the former champion, netting $13,800 for the Venezuelan Childrens Foundation.
